Dr. Shabatian provides patients with the Crystalens™ procedure. Crystalens is an accommodating intraocular lens used to treat both cataracts and presbyopia, the progressive inability to focus on near objects, commonly developed with age. Crystalens works by recreating accommodation similar to your eye’s natural lens. It uses the eye muscle to flex in order to focus on objects at all distances. This design allows the optic to move back and forth as you constantly change focus on images around you.
The Crystalens procedure is an outpatient surgery, typically takes about 15-20 minutes, and is painless. Dr. Shabatian will begin by numbing the eye with drops and sealing the cornea. The natural lens is then gently removed, and the Crystalens implanted. Normal activity can be resumed almost immediately after surgery, with a total recover time of only 2-3 days.

Is Crystalens a permanent solution to my cataract problems?
The Crystalens surgery is permanent and the well-tested, durable design has allowed the flexing ability of the lenses to remain completely unchanged in patients for years.
Does Insurance or Medicare generally cover Crystalens?
Though insurance coverage varies, most private insurance and Medicare will cover the procedure, and may even provide an additional sum for the artificial lens implants.
What are the side effects of Crystalens?
Crystalens has the same risks as surgically implanting any standard intraocular lens. Glare, halos, and other visual disturbances may occur under certain lighting conditions, particularly at night. Dr. {{LAST NAME}} can help you determine if Crystalens is right for you.
